DomDom launches Hanoi New Music Festival.

Domdom continues to expand the experimental music and art scene in Hanoi with its New Music festival.

DomDom continues to expand the experimental music and art scene in Vietnam with its Hanoi New Music Festival, running from 30 November through 8 December.

Starting tomorrow, DomDom, the brain child of musician and artist Kim Ngoc, is taking experimental music and art in Hanoi to the next level with the inaugural launching of its Hanoi New Music Festival. Featuring over 30 Vietnamese and 16 international (primarily European) musicians and artists in a variety of venues around town, the festival is nearly two weeks total in length and seems poised to take experimental music in Hanoi to the next level. More information can be found at DomDom’s site here and here and also at Hanoi Grapevine here. I’m definitely going to try to make it to some of these shows, you should too! Regular Hanoise artists and friends such as Luong Hue Trinh, Vu Nhat Tan and others appear in festival events. Festival info, schedule and ticket details from DomDom included below.

On top of the 8-day programme, festival goers have the rare chance to see excellent interactive music productions, improvisations, music installations and music theatre in the city of Hanoi. In addition to the presentation of electro-acoustic music, a range of contemporary chamber music is an integral component of the festival.

HNMF 2013 - New Meet Old 2

The festival’s vast experimental music shows are supplemented by an extensive cultural programme of performances and screenings.

Under the title ‘The Blind Spot’ the festival aims not only to change the ‘invisibility’ of contemporary music in the local scene, filling the gaps in knowledge, but also to generate synergetic effects to strengthen musical infrastructures between Vietnam and the worldwide contemporary music scene.
